I wish I had photos to show everyone the totally SWEET party Brian and I attended last night. The invitation said it was a "Bad Santa Party" with a viewing of the movie Bad Santa, snacks and BYOB. I expected a laid back affair. And, it was... but, it was also completely thought out and entirely AWESOME.
If you haven't seen the
movie let me tell you a bit about it before going into the awesome details of this party. First, it is INCREDIBLY crude. While enjoying the company and the laughs the movie brought about... it was a little too much for me. Billy Bob Thorton plays a drunk thief named Willy who partnered with his elf does a "santa" gig each year at malls and then robs the store blind on Christmas Eve. The movie is John Ritter's last and also has the late Bernie Mac. In the course of one of the heists he meets a kid named Thermon Mermon. Kind of a geeky, annoying kid who loves Santa and Christmas. Kid lives alone with an out-of-it granny that constantly asks everyone if they want her to make a sandwich. Willy moves in and eventually gets somewhat of a heart.
First off, "Santa" answered the door donning a felt red suit with his white beard falling off his face and a nice five-o-clock shadow grown in-- oh, and a BIG glass of red wine in his hand. There is a sandwich bar for everyone to make sandwiches (something we all realize is cleverly planned after granny does her "Anyone want a Sandwich" bit a few times). As the movie is going on we are all realizing that the hosts have gone all out. Sandwich bar, knee high hose hung as stockings and popcorn as they are stringing popcorn on the tree. And, as we are all leaving they hand us Advent Calendars (a big thing in the movie when "Willy" rips the kid's advent calendar apart and then fixes is by putting in things such as candy corn and asprin). Not only did they do the calendars but they ripped part of the days apart and filled them with horrible goodies.
Total blast. Koodos to friends who planned it!
